Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and what we do with it — in plain English, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
The data controller is Lakeside Farm Ltd (contact: William Anderson), Stocksfield, Northumberland NE43 7TW. Email: hello@lakesidefarm.uk.
What this website collects
- Browsing this site requires no account and sets no tracking cookies, and our analytics store nothing on your device. We don’t build advertising profiles or track you across other sites.
- We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, for anonymous usage statistics — which pages are visited, how the booking flow is used (for example, that a price was shown or a checkout button was clicked), how quickly pages load, and where something breaks. IP addresses aren’t stored and individual visitors aren’t identified; because nothing is kept on your device, a return visit looks like a new visitor. When a booking is confirmed we add its internal booking number, value and dates to the matching anonymous visit, so we can see which pages and ads led to it; that doesn’t put your name or contact details into our analytics. This is our legitimate interest in understanding what works.
- PostHog also records anonymised session replays and heatmaps: where people tap and scroll, taps that did nothing, and what was on screen at the time, so we can find parts of the site that confuse people. Form fields are masked, we collect no names or contact details on this website (those are entered on Lodgify’s checkout, which we don’t record), and recordings are deleted after 30 days.
- We advertise on Google and use the Google Ads tag to see which ads lead to bookings. The tag runs with cookies and all storage permissions denied, so it sets no cookies; it sends Google a cookieless ping, which Google uses to estimate whether an ad led to a booking. If you arrive from a Google ad, the ad’s click ID travels in the address of the pages you visit on our site, so it also appears in the page addresses and events our analytics record for that visit, and it is held in your browser’s memory; we don’t store it on your device. If you then book, we may send Google the click ID with the booking’s value, time and an internal booking number so the ad can be measured — never your name, email address or phone number. Google handles that data under Google’s privacy policy, which may involve processing outside the UK.
- When you check availability or prices, the dates and guest count you pick are sent to our booking provider (Lodgify) to answer the query. We don’t store them against you, though our anonymous analytics may record the page address, which can include those dates.
- Payment happens on Lodgify’s secure checkout, which Lodgify runs and which may use its own cookies — see Lodgify’s privacy policy. We never see or store your full card details.
What we collect when you book
- Name, address, email and telephone number
- Booking dates and any special requirements or requests
- Our correspondence with you (emails, messages)
Why we collect it
- To manage your booking and your stay — this is necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To keep business and tax records — a legal obligation.
- To communicate with you and improve the guest experience — our legitimate interest as hosts.
We’ll never sell your data, and we won’t email you marketing you didn’t ask for.
Who we share it with
Lodgify manages our bookings and stores booking data on our behalf (see Lodgify’s privacy policy). If you booked through Airbnb, Booking.com or Vrbo, that platform also holds your data under its own policy. PostHog (EU) processes our anonymous analytics, and Google receives the advertising measurement described above. Beyond that, we only share personal data where it’s necessary to process your booking, where the law requires it, or in an emergency.
How long we keep it
Booking and payment records are kept for as long as UK tax law requires (currently six years), then deleted. Everything else is kept only as long as it’s needed.
CCTV
There is a single external security camera facing the driveway, used for the safety of guests and the property. It does not overlook the lodge, deck or hot tub. Footage is kept for a short period and then automatically overwritten, and is only reviewed if there’s an incident.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- Show you the personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy
- Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
- Delete your data, or restrict or object to how we use it
- Withdraw consent, where consent is what we relied on
Email hello@lakesidefarm.uk and we’ll sort it. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this policy in any meaningful way we’ll post the update here, and tell you directly if it affects a booking you already have. Last updated 9 October 2026, to describe session replay, heatmaps and the Google Ads tag.
